The Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) ongoing 3, 000-capacity ultra-modern correctional facility is now under construction, and the federal government has stated that it is stepping up its efforts to finish it before the present administration ends.
Rauf Aregbesola, the interior minister, revealed this yesterday in Abuja when touring the facility for inspection.
The minister predicted that the project will be 90 percent finished in the following three months in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Umar Abubakar.
Aregbesola told Nigerians that the facility will be finished soon while being accompanied by the Controller General of the Service, Haliru Nababa, and other top management executives of the Service.
The Federal Ministry of Interior’s Permanent Secretary, Shuaib Belgore, spoke on the minister’s behalf. He said that “the facility is a huge investment which will benefit the nation in terms of humane custody of offenders, promoting their effective reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration, as well as ensuring public safety.”
Aregbesola ordered that the list of current projects in the NCoS) be made accessible to the ministry in order to identify those that are ready for commissioning while urging collaboration toward the completion of the ultra-modern custodial facility.
He praised everyone involved for their efforts on the ongoing renovations and pleaded with the contractors and engineers in charge to move quickly so that the facility could be finished on schedule.
