Fiji boxer Ubayd Haider has tragically passed away more than two weeks after collapsing at the conclusion of his IBO Asia Pacific Super Featherweight title fight against Australia-based Chinese boxer Runqi Zhou. Haider, aged 25, formerly known as Nathan Singh, had been in a coma at Lautoka Aspen Hospital since the fight in Nadi, Fiji, on October 26. His death was confirmed on Monday by his wife, Helen Singh.

In a heartfelt social media post, Helen Singh expressed her gratitude for their time together, writing, “I thank God for the incredible 25 years of your life and the last five spent with me. Thank you for loving me and for the incredible memories we shared together. Thank you for giving me the best gift anyone could ask for… our beautiful boys.”

Reports from Fiji media indicate that Haider had been in a coma following emergency brain surgery. The chairman of the Boxing Commission of Fiji, Adi Sarayan, stated that the commission is working with relevant authorities to fully understand the circumstances surrounding Haider’s death.

Video footage of the title fight shows Zhou landing a series of punches on Haider, who struggles to defend himself, eventually sinking to one knee. The referee stopped the fight, but Haider was seen standing and walking to his corner. He collapsed soon after, leading to the urgent medical intervention.

Runqi Zhou shared his condolences on Instagram, saying, “Rest In Peace to Ubayd Haider. He was a fighter to the end. Condolences and deepest sympathies to his family and the people of Fiji.”
