Fire on Tuesday gutted a three-storey building at Nkpor in the Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The fire, it was gathered, began on the last floor of the building located near a hospital.

A resident told our correspondent that the fire was caused by electricity surge.

“No death was recorded in the incident but property worth millions of naira were damaged in the inferno caused by power surge,” the source said.

The Chief firefighter in the state, Martin Agbili, who confirmed the incident, corroborated that no life was lost.

He said his men were on ground to put out the fire from escalating to other floors.

“The fire was caused by power surge. My men arrived at the scene almost immediately and were able to contain the fire,” he added.
