A sergeant named Ekpo Shinuyere has been fired by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly extorting a man of N98,000.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesman, claimed on May 31 that Shinuyere took his victim’s phone and reportedly transferred N98,000.

According to Hundeyin, the police officer transferred the N100,000 from the victim’s bank account via a point of sale (POS) terminal.

In his words, “Police received the victim’s report and the officer denied the crime when he was called.

He was detained by order so that he wouldn’t tamper with the evidence. We requested his account statement by writing to his bank. Before the money was moved to the officer’s account, the POS operator transferred it somewhere, and we were able to track it back to that location.
