Mike Ejiofor, a security specialist and former director of the Department of State Services (DSS), has vehemently denied making the remarks about Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, that have been attributed to him.
Ejiofor declared his intention to file a lawsuit against Opera News, an internet publishing organization, for spreading untrue information.
According to a report by Opera News titled “Obi is Going Nowhere As Far As God Lives; If Igbos Want A Representative, It’s Not Peter Obi – Mike Ejiofor,” Ejiofor is accused of praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu despite receiving less support from the South Eastern region in the previous election for his role in making appointments and resolving their complaints.
Ejiofor unequivocally declared that the claim was wholly untrue, deceptive, without merit, and the product of the author’s imagination. He made it clear that discussing security concerns and offering solutions to the problems the nation faces with security was his area of competence.
Ejiofor stressed that he is not a politician and does not engage in political discourse while expressing his disbelief at the supposed report. He reiterated that he has never expressed any negative views about Peter Obi or any other politician. He said that he had received a ton of calls and criticism for a comment he never made.
Ejiofor demanded that Opera News retract the article right away and sincerely apologize for attempting to damage his reputation with false political claims. He emphasized that he shouldn’t be drawn into political issues or have his reputation damaged because he is a security specialist, not a politician.
Ejiofor also said that he has spoken with his attorney already and will take legal action against Opera News’ publisher for failing to immediately delete the “reckless and baseless report.”
Ejiofor used the occasion to warn publishers against disseminating false information. He warned that such reckless utterances could inspire violence and foster unwarranted hostility between various groups and people.
