According to reports, four previous Zamfara State governors met in Abuja over the weekend to discuss long-term remedies to the state’s worsening security situation.
It is important to note that Zamfara is one of the northern states where the activities of terrorists, bandits, and other criminal groups have negatively impacted socioeconomic activity and infrastructure.
At Matawalle’s home in Abuja, the important meeting between the past leaders of the state took place. Long-term strategies to stop the unsettling attacks on residents were explored at this discussion.
Former Zamfara governors Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima, Alhaji Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, and Minister of State for Defense Bello Mohammed Matawalle were present during the closed-door meeting.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara and the significance of strengthening the party in the state were other topics of discussion and debate among the attendees.
The meeting’s specifics remained undisclosed, however Daily Trust noted in its report that the meeting proceeded beyond three hours into the night behind closed doors.
According to people with knowledge of the meeting, Matawalle pledged to work with the other three former governors to fight banditry in Zamfara State in his capacity as defense minister.
The meeting’s main goal was to confront the state’s growing insecurity in order to support Zamfara’s socioeconomic development, advancement in education, and expansion of the healthcare system.
