Alayi Madu, a former member of the Boko Haram terrorist organization who had been rehabilitated, was captured by NDLEA agents along with 10 kilograms of skunk.
The suspect, a 26-year-old who spent 15 years as a Boko Haram member before turning himself in to the Nigerian military in 2021, was stopped on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway on March 9, 2023.
In a statement released on Sunday, March 12, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi claimed that the suspect had admitted to purchasing the illegal drugs in Ibadan, Oyo state, and transporting the shipment to Maiduguri, Borno state, while concealing them in a sack.
“According to Madu’s account, he comes from Banki town in Borno State and joined the infamous terrorist group in 2006, when he was just 9 years old.
He said that after repenting and turning himself in to the military in 2021, he had treatment at the Umaru Shehu rehabilitation center in Maiduguri and the Malam Sidi de-radicalization center in Gombe.
