Derby manager Frank Lampard is relishing his side’s potential meeting with Chelsea in the third round of Carabao Cup.
The former Blues midfielder has become an impressive figure at the Pride Park after winning five of seven games in all competitions. Derby County now face the prospect of facing Chelsea in the next round of the competition, following the 4-0 victory over Hull City on Tuesday.
Despite the tough test that lies ahead, Lampard has revealed that he is relishing a ‘romantic’ meeting with his former employers, Chelsea. He told Sky Sports: ‘The big boys are coming in which will be a great test for us. It’s a competition we want to do well in. It’s an obvious question for me [playing Chelsea], it would be nice. For the romantic link Chelsea would be a good one.’
Derby are going to meet up with Hull City once again in the English Championship, and Lampard said: ‘We will have to see, we will reflect on this one. It will be a completely different game,’ the former Chelsea midfielder said.
‘They will have a reaction. We can’t expect it to be 4-0.’
Frank Lampard was a revered hero during his time at the Stamford Bridge, helping the Blues to their first set of league glories.
