Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to retain head coach Eric Chelle, stressing that the Malian tactician enjoys strong support within the national team.
Onyeka praised Chelle’s tactical intelligence and personal qualities, noting that his impact was evident from the moment he assumed charge of the Super Eagles. According to the Brentford midfielder, Chelle’s clear game plan and approach to man-management have endeared him to many players in the squad.
Speaking to Oma Akatugba, Onyeka described Chelle as an approachable and open-minded coach who creates a comfortable environment for players to express themselves and compete fairly for opportunities.
“He’s a good and lovely man, someone you feel comfortable around,” Onyeka said. “When Chelle took charge, you could see his game plan and tactics. He is very open-minded and gives everyone the opportunity they deserve.”
Chelle’s current contract with the NFF is due to expire in January 2027, having taken over midway into a two-year deal. With discussions around the future of the Super Eagles coaching crew beginning to surface, Onyeka made it clear that the players want continuity.
“A lot of the Super Eagles players love him so much,” Onyeka added. “Don’t let him go.”
