Over the course of the most of the Premier League 2022–23 season, Manchester City has lagged behind Arsenal. Arsenal has lost twice in 16 games during the past three months, both times to Man City, up until the defeat to Brighton on Sunday.
Following their most recent match, City regained first place in the Premier League and has remained there ever since.
Earlier on Sunday, Ilkay Gundogan inspired Manchester City to a 3-0 victory at Everton with two outstanding goals and a set-up for another from Erling Haaland. Pep Guardiola’s treble-chasing team has 85 points with three games left.
Mikel Arteta’s team now lags City by four points after Brighton and Hove Albion’s victory over the Gunners.
Premier League table at the moment:
How is it possible from here for Manchester City to win the Premier League?
Manchester City will need to defeat Chelsea in order to win the league title, which would be its third straight after Arsenal’s loss to Brighton.
From here, how can Arsenal win the Premier League championship?
Arsenal will need to defeat both of its remaining opponents, Wolves and Nottingham Forest, and hope Man City :
- Lose every one of its three remaining games, which are against Chelsea, Brighton, and Brentford.
- Lose two games while drawing one.
- Have a lower goal differential than Arsenal while drawing two games, losing one, and losing one.
Arsenal’s prospects are minimal to say the least because City is in excellent form right now; its most recent loss occurred more than three months ago. Even worse, City leads Arsenal by 19 goals in goal differential, making the third criterion extremely implausible.
