— Says Turmoil Will Strengthen, Not Weaken Rivers
— Assures Muslims of Inclusive Governance
Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reassured residents that the ongoing political crisis will ultimately fortify them rather than weaken the state.
Hosting Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic groups, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, at his private residence in Port Harcourt for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, Fubara urged unity and faith in divine purpose.
“This season represents love, sharing, and sacrifice,” he told the delegation. “You have come to share in our pain and have made great sacrifices through your prayers. As Christians, we believe everything happens for a reason, and I strongly believe this situation is leading us to something greater.”
Acknowledging the turmoil, Fubara suggested it might be driven by higher forces. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, he reaffirmed his commitment to justice and equality, envisioning a society free from oppression.
He assured the Muslim community that their pending requests would be addressed once the political climate stabilizes. Drawing a biblical analogy, he urged patience, saying, “If God could be patient with Noah, allowing even the snail to enter the Ark, then patience remains essential in our struggle.”
Fubara warned against those inciting violence, calling on his supporters and Rivers people to reject elements attempting to destabilize the state.
“Their goal is to create problems and deny people their livelihoods. We will not allow that. We will continue to operate peacefully and respect constituted authority to ensure Rivers remains a model for others in Nigeria.”
Speaking on behalf of the Muslim Ummah, Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor expressed unwavering support for Fubara, assuring him of their prayers and solidarity. He commended the governor’s inclusive leadership, contrasting it with the previous administration, which had declared Rivers a 100% Christian state.
Uhor urged President Bola Tinubu to reassess the emergency rule in Rivers State and restore Fubara’s full authority, arguing that despite the political crisis, the governor has continued to lead effectively.
