Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, paid a visit to the scene of the tanker explosion in Eleme Local Government Area on Saturday. The number of casualties is still unknown.
Over fifty automobiles were involved in the Friday night fire, and some of the victims were discovered in cars, along the road, and in a nearby drainage, having been burned beyond recognition.
Fubara ordered security services to carry out a comprehensive investigation of the incidents in order to make it easier to provide assistance to the relatives of the victims. Fubara was escorted to the explosion site by the Commissioners for Energy, Maximus Nwafor, and Police, Olatunji Disu.
The governor also bemoaned the state of the East-West road’s Eleme segment, emphasizing that commuters should drive cautiously.
“We got information about a very serious fire that was caused by a tanker conveying PMS yesterday around 7-8pm,” he said.
After receiving the information from the MD of Indorama, I promptly notified the security services. Based on our observations so far this morning, the case was not particularly enjoyable.
“From what I can see, we captured a significant amount of automobiles being wrecked and lives being lost. I’ve already requested a comprehensive brief from the security agencies. in order for us to properly assess the situation, determine the extent to which we can assist the families of the deceased, and determine ways to lessen the impact of their losses.
“This road’s status is well known to all of us; it is very tragic. The majority of our people use caution when driving on this road.
