On Monday, Prof. Ngozi Odu took the oath of office as the state’s deputy governor, and Mr. Siminalayi Fubara was sworn in as Rivers’ fourth governor since 1999.
According to the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Justice Chibuzo Amadi, the State Chief Judge, administered the oath of office to the governor and his deputy in Port Harcourt.

The state flag and a handover note were presented to the new governor by the outgoing governor, Nyesom Wike.

Fubara commended the people of Rivers for their devotion to democracy and for their perseverance in his inaugural speech.

He pledged to build on the successes achieved by his predecessor’s administration in a number of areas, including infrastructure, the economy, health, agriculture, security, education, and youth empowerment.

“Dear Rivers citizens, today you have entrusted me with the enormous duty of leading our state as governor for the ensuing four years. The attention has truly impacted me, and I’m grateful for this honor.

“You have put your faith in us, and now the question is how we can deliver effective good governance that lives up to your hopes and aspirations.

“Our reply is straightforward and majestic. By today’s mandate, you have demanded consistency in the state’s leadership and confidence in the development of Rivers State.

“Like a strong relay team, we have accepted the baton to continue the race,” he declared.

The governor informed the populace that he was up to the work and duties ahead and promised to deliver strong, decisive, focused, purposeful, and accountable leadership.

Fubara also expressed gratitude to the previous governor, the PDP Chairman, state members, and other dignitaries who attended the event.

Former governors of Benue, Samuel Ortm; Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose; Rivers, Peter Odili and his wife, Justice Mary Odili (rtd); and Justice Suzzet, the wife of Governor Wike, were among the dignitaries who attended the celebration.
