Governor Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, declaring that the peace and stability of the state outweigh personal ambition.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Fubara said he reached the decision after “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends and political associates.

The governor pledged to support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate, insisting that leadership demands sacrifice and that Rivers State must come before individual interests.

Fubara acknowledged the disappointment among his supporters, many of whom, he said, invested heavily in the political journey. He, however, maintained that his silence in recent weeks was “deliberate and strategic”, driven by what he described as the higher interest of the state.

Without revealing details, the governor hinted at mounting political pressure behind the scenes, saying he had faced “immense pressures and difficult choices”.

Quoting a local proverb, Fubara said: “Not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace,” suggesting that some realities were being withheld to preserve peace.

He thanked the APC leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their support throughout the process.

Fubara stressed that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as weakness or surrender, but as an act of conviction aimed at preserving unity in Rivers State.

The governor also vowed to continue serving the people of the state until the end of his tenure.
