Godwin Obaseki, the executive governor of Edo State, has expressed amazement and fear at the federal government’s failure to prepare and effectively address the gasoline subsidy withdrawal policy, which has further impoverished Nigerians and caused them misery and suffering.
The governor remarked in Benin City, the state’s capital, “I have always warned. I issued a warning to Nigerians on May Day of this year. The old economic system in Nigeria is no longer in place, I told them, and we must create a new one so that we can stop fooling ourselves about who we are as a country.
As a result, a significant portion of the weight of these policies will unfortunately fall on the weakest and most vulnerable members of our society. I find it shocking that those who ran nationwide campaigns promising to eliminate subsidies didn’t have any concrete ideas for what would happen next.
