  • Mr. Oluwaseun Benjamin Faleye and Mrs. Ayomikun Oluwaseun Aluko, leaders of FUOYE’s SSANU chapter, have been suspended for signing a controversial communique.
  • The communique, issued after a meeting on November 25, 2024, accused FUOYE’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, of sexual harassment and staff victimization.
  • The Vice Chancellor has denied the allegations, and a police investigation earlier cleared him of any wrongdoing.
  • The suspension of the SSANU leaders follows the university’s review of their defense, which was deemed unsatisfactory, and includes a directive for them to hand over university property and stay away from the premises during their suspension.

Mr. Oluwaseun Benjamin Faleye, the Chairman, and Mrs. Ayomikun Oluwaseun Aluko, the Secretary of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the Federal University of Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), have been suspended for signing a communique that accused the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, of sexual harassment and victimizing staff members.

The meeting, held on November 25, 2024, included allegations that there was audio evidence of the Vice Chancellor soliciting sex from married female senior staff. However, Prof. Fasina has denied the accusations and was previously cleared by a police investigation.

The suspension was confirmed in a letter stating that the leaders’ written defense was unsatisfactory, and as a result, their appointments have been suspended until the case is resolved. During the suspension, they will be on half pay and are required to return all university property, including their staff identity cards. They have also been instructed to stay away from university premises unless otherwise directed in writing.
