A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has accused the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu of weakening opposition platforms, alleging that the ruling government has targeted political parties that challenged it in the 2023 elections.

Galadima claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had deliberately undermined both the NNPP and the Labour Party (LP), the platforms on which Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Peter Obi respectively contested for the presidency.

Speaking on the political developments surrounding their earlier association with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Galadima argued that the ruling party is resistant to fair political competition.

“The government of the day and the ruling party have gone to town to destroy all political parties,” he said.

According to him, the alleged actions were aimed at weakening viable opposition ahead of future elections.

“They destroyed the NNPP and LP, on which both Kwankwaso and Peter Obi ran in 2023,” he added.

Galadima further alleged that the APC’s strategy is to limit electoral contest to a single dominant figure.

“The APC wants to assure itself that the only way it can win elections is to have a single candidate, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; they are allergic to democratic competition,” he said.

The ruling party has not officially responded to the claims.
