Moroccan police seized 69 capsules filled with 865 grams of cocaine inside the stomach of a Gambian national at Morocco’s Casablanca Airport, the official national radio reported on Thursday.
The suspect, aged 55, was arrested on November 16 when he landed from Sao Paulo, Brazil over suspicion of cocaine smuggling in his intestines, it added.
The banned substance was extracted from his stomach at Casablanca Ibn Rochd University Hospital, where he remained a couple of days under medical surveillance.
After the stabilization of his health condition, he was remanded in police custody to complete the investigation conducted under the supervision of public prosecutor, said the radio quoting a statement of the Moroccan police.
Moroccan police have seized 1.65 tons of cocaine in 2018, down from the record 2.8 tons in 2017, according to official statistics.
