Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has categorically denied any involvement in alleged plans to remove the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II. This denial comes in response to a viral social media post claiming Ganduje was spearheading efforts to dethrone the emir, a notion he has dismissed as unfounded.
The controversy is rooted in Ganduje’s previous tenure as governor, during which Emir Sanusi was removed—a decision later upheld by the courts. Many speculated that the removal was politically motivated.
In a statement released in Abuja, Ganduje, via his Senior Special Assistant on Public Enlightenment, distanced himself from any current issues regarding the emirate. He stressed that, having stepped down as governor, he no longer holds any authority over such matters.
The statement further mocked the suggestion that Ganduje would be involved in influencing the emirate, asserting that his focus is now on leading the APC and contributing to the party’s success. It read: “Ganduje has nothing to do with the present enthronement or dethronement of Emir Mohammad Sanusi in Kano. It is laughable that he would be accused of masterminding a fresh plot… He is now very busy with leading the APC.”
Additionally, the statement condemned those purportedly behind the allegations, suggesting they aimed to sow discord between Ganduje and the presidency. Ganduje reiterated his respect for President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing the strong and cordial relationship between them, which he believes cannot be undermined by such blackmail.
