Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has rejected the Kano State Government’s call for his arrest, branding the move baseless, irresponsible, and a distraction from the state’s worsening insecurity.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje said Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration had abandoned critical security concerns while chasing political shadows.

“It is deeply unfortunate that rather than addressing the escalating insecurity ravaging the state, Governor Yusuf has chosen to chase shadows while searching for scapegoats to conceal his glaring failures,” the statement read.

Ganduje accused the governor of ignoring repeated attacks on communities in Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa, and several others, insisting that Yusuf had neither visited the affected areas nor shown sympathy to the victims.

“His continued absence in moments that require leadership speaks volumes of his disconnect from the people he claims to serve,” he added.

The former governor maintained that he has never been linked to violence or any activity capable of undermining peace in Kano, arguing that the allegation was crafted to mislead the public and mask poor governance.

Ganduje urged the governor to fulfil his constitutional duty of protecting residents rather than “engaging in political theatrics and issuing unfounded allegations.”

The Kano State Government had on Friday demanded Ganduje’s immediate arrest for allegedly making inciting statements and attempting to form an illegal militia group in the state.
