Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged his rivals to keep criticizing his wife over the controversy surrounding the substitution of one of the Kano nominees for a cabinet position.

After intense political maneuvering, Ganduje succeeded in substituting Maryam Shetty’s name with that of Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, a friend of his daughter Amina.

Within 24 hours of the dramatic turn of events, a video went viral in which Ganduje could be seen smiling at the mention of Maryam Shetty with his wife Hafsat, the new ministry nominee Bunkure, and other females.

The words “the head has now fit the cap” were spoken in Hausa by a woman whose face was not recorded during what appeared to be a thank you visit to Ganduje and his family.

“Maryam who?” we asked when we learned that they had brought Maryam.and another voice responded, “Shetty,” to the first.

At this point, Bunkure, Ganduje, and Hafsat Ganduje (also known as Gwaggo) could all be seen laughing.

Who is Shetty, I asked? We were perplexed, so I remarked, “Where is she from?” Kano, they said,” the opening speaker said.

I want them to call out Gwaggo again, Ganduje can be heard saying in the second video as he appears to be responding. A new chapter of stupidity has been started by them. The fact that Bunkure has joined the caucus is something for which we are grateful.

Bunkure served as the higher education commissioner during Ganduje’s second tenure as governor of Kano state.

Due to her friendship with Amina, one of Ganduje’s daughters, who is thought to have influenced her selection as commissioner, she is also closely connected to the Ganduje family.

Shetty and Bunkure were students at Kano Foundation and afterwards at Bayero University, where they studied together in various courses and shared a faculty of medical sciences.

Due to being in the same faculty at both the junior secondary school and the university, the two also belonged to the same circle of friends. Bunkure read Medicine and Surgery while Shetty read Physiotherapy.
