Former Premier League player and Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu was reportedly discovered alive in the quake-damaged Turkey when his voice was recognized.

When two earthquakes shook Turkey early on February 6, the former Chelsea and Newcastle player, 31, is thought to have been on the ninth story of an apartment building.

The natural disaster in Kahramanmaras, where his current club, Super Lig side Hatayspor is headquartered, affected the father of three children.

Atsu’s voice and Taner Savut, the sporting director for Hatayspor, were reportedly heard amid the debris.

V.P. Hatayspor Atsu is out of the wreckage but injured, Mustafa Ozat said in a statement, while the search for Savut is still ongoing.

Ozat explained to Radyo Gol that Christian Atsu had been injured. Taner Savut, our director of sports, is regrettably still trapped beneath the debris.
