Global oil prices plunge as Iran-US tensions hit Strait of Hormuz

Global oil prices fell on Monday as renewed tensions between Iran and the United States raised fresh concerns about energy supplies from the Middle East.

Brent crude fell by 1.84% to $92.65 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) dropped 2.25% to $85.17, according to a market survey.

The decline came as tensions between Tehran and Washington intensified over proposed US economic sanctions against Iran and its allies.

At the weekend, US President Donald Trump announced plans to tighten economic sanctions against Iran under the proposed “Economic D Sanctions”.
