Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has resumed full training after missing the game against West Ham United last Saturday.
The German midfielder has come under criticisms for his lack-lustre displays for the Gunners at the start of the season, which saw them lose to Manchester City and Chelsea. Following his absence from the squad that played the Hammers, there have been talks about a possible rift between Ozil and Unai Emery, which was swiftly debunked by the Gunners boss, who then revealed that the player was ill.
‘Two days ago I spoke with him about things tactically for this match and the last match,’ Emery said after the first win of his tenure.
‘And he said to me he was sick two days ago. On Friday, after my conversation on Thursday, he continued to stay off sick. We spoke with the doctor and decided it was better for him to stay at home.’’
There were reports that the duo of Ozil and Emery nearly squared up after the coach informed the midfielder of a change in role, as he has not been impressed by the player’s contributions to the squad since he took over last summer.
When he was asked if Ozil’s position in the team could be changed, Emery said: ‘Maybe.’
