Tunji Wusu –
Insinuations that Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State was awaiting the results of the governorship election tribunal meeting in Lafia before appointing his cabinet were refuted on Tuesday by Peter Ahemba, the senior special assistant to Governor Sule.
According to Ahemba, the wait was necessary so that the governor could choose individuals who had good judgment, a track record of honesty, and were prepared to work with him to advance the state’s growth.
The SSA to the governor urged the public to disregard the unfounded and baseless rumor in the state in response to allegations made in some quarters that governor Sule was purposefully delaying the appointment of Commissioners and Special Advisers after his inauguration to await the outcome of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.
“The public is already aware of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party’s relentless propaganda, particularly in light of the ongoing Governorship Elections Petitions Tribunal proceedings where the PDP is contesting the declaration of Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule of the ruling All Progressives Congress as the winner of the state’s March 18th governorship election.”
“Up until now, the opposition party and its social media representatives had based their propaganda on false publications that they typically sponsor in some media outlets at the conclusion of each Tribunal session to win the public’s sympathy.”
“It is evident that the people of Nasarawa State, who believe and appreciate the development strides recorded by the Engr. Sule administration in the last four years and his persistent commitment to consolidate on these achievements, have refused to be misled by the media propaganda and have changed tactics.” Ahemba announced
The selection of Commissioners and Special Advisers, according to the governor’s aide, is solely within his or her purview. He or she also questioned why certain people should be taking Panadol for the governor’s pain.
It should be underlined that the matter brought before the Governorship Elections Petitions Tribunal against the Governor is in no way preventing the State Government from appointing commissioners and other officials.
We therefore urge the people of Nasarawa State to maintain their composure because the Governor would soon transmit the list of commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for review and potential confirmation in accordance with the law, as well as name Special Advisers.
