Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has categorically denied allegations linking him to the pregnancy of former Big Brother Naija housemate, Nengi Rebecca Hampson. The rumor, which gained widespread attention after being reported by a popular blog, was swiftly debunked by Nengi herself through her social media accounts.
In response to the false claims, Governor Diri expressed both shock and disappointment, questioning why such baseless rumors were being circulated, particularly on the same day his administration celebrated its 5th anniversary.
The governor’s Director of New Media, Dr. Kola Oredipe, addressed the issue on social media, dismissing the rumors as unfounded and politically motivated. He emphasized that Nengi had no personal relationship with Governor Diri and criticized the spread of fake news, calling it an effort to distract from the significant accomplishments of the governor’s administration.
“This is a distraction, and some of us are very justified in the many reasons offered to regulate the use of various social media platforms,” Oredipe stated. He further noted the unfortunate timing of the rumors, particularly as the governor’s team was inaugurating a new road in Yenagoa.
Describing Governor Diri as a man of integrity, Oredipe reiterated that the allegations were politically motivated and lacked any factual basis.
