Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extended his deepest sympathies following the recent tragic stampedes in Abuja and Okija, Anambra, which resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries. In his statement, issued on Saturday, Governor Sanwo-Olu conveyed his condolences to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra, and Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, expressing solidarity during this difficult time.

The stampedes occurred during food distribution events at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, and at a community center in Okija, Anambra. These incidents follow a similar tragedy in Ibadan, where 35 people lost their lives during a children’s carnival.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, on behalf of the Lagos State Government and its residents, shared his profound sorrow, urging caution in the organization of charitable and humanitarian activities. He stressed the need for greater care and responsibility during such events to prevent further tragedies.

The governor reaffirmed his support and solidarity with the grieving families, assuring them that the entire Lagos State government shares in their loss.
