Nigeria did not record a win at the 2026 Grammy Awards despite strong representation in major categories, as South African singer Tyla emerged victorious in the Best African Music Performance category.
Nigerian artistes Burna Boy, Davido, Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid were all nominated at the ceremony but did not secure awards, ending the night without a Grammy trophy for the country.
Tyla won the Best African Music Performance award with her song Push 2 Start, defeating Burna Boy’s Love, Davido and Omah Lay’s With You, as well as Gimme Dat by Ayra Starr and Wizkid.
In the Best Global Music Album category, Brazilian music icons Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia claimed the award with Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo, edging out Burna Boy’s No Sign of Weakness.
The win marks Tyla’s second victory in the category since its introduction in 2024, when she became the first recipient with her hit song Water.
Her latest success further highlights her growing influence on the global African music scene.
