The Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu secured 10.9 million votes during the recent presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress, describing the figures as inflated and unrealistic.
In a statement issued by the group’s president, Akin Malaolu, the forum argued that prevailing economic hardship, insecurity and public dissatisfaction with governance made such figures difficult to justify.
The group claimed that the primary exercise lacked widespread public enthusiasm across many states and questioned the credibility of the reported turnout.
According to the statement, worsening insecurity, rising hunger and economic pressures would likely have affected participation and support levels during the exercise.
The forum also referenced the 2018 APC governorship primary in Lagos State, where former governor Akinwunmi Ambode lost the party’s ticket to Babajide Sanwo-Olu. It alleged that vote figures announced during that contest exceeded the party’s actual membership strength in the state.
The group urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure transparency and credibility in future electoral processes.
The APC has yet to officially respond to the allegations.
