Erling Haaland, a forward for Manchester City, will sit out the team’s Champions League match against Sevilla on Wednesday out of caution after the Norwegian missed Saturday’s 1-0 Premier League victory at Leicester City due to injury, according to manager Pep Guardiola.
Haaland was replaced in the second half of City’s goalless Champions League tie at his former team Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday after picking up a knock. Haaland has 22 goals in all competitions this season.
When City hosts Sevilla in the premier club competition in Europe, Guardiola stated he would not take a chance with his top scorer because they have already advanced to the elimination round.
When questioned by the BBC about a prospective return date for Haaland, Guardiola replied, “I don’t know. He has damaged ligaments. We still have a week, and he feels better.
Because we have already qualified, he won’t play against Sevilla, but perhaps he can help us against Fulham on Saturday. If not, he might play in the Carabao Cup on November 9 against Chelsea.
In the first half at Leicester, City lacked a cutting edge, but a spectacular free kick from Kevin De Bruyne clinched the victory and the champions returned to the top of the Premier League standings.
