Following an ambush on the eighteen-seater bus they were riding in, in Nasarawa state, gunmen kidnapped passengers who were traveling from Enugu State to Abuja.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, provided newsmen with a statement in which he said that the police were informed about an attack at Doruwa village on the Nasarawa-Keffi route, in which an unknown number of persons were taken hostage.

He added that three of the victims had been successfully rescued after the local police and other authorities worked together on a combined effort.

“Police operatives, in collaboration with other security agencies, responded swiftly, but the act was committed before the information came. The hoodlums were trailed, and the area combed. Consequently, 3 people were rescued, and the vehicle recovered to the police station”, he said.

In order to apprehend the perpetrators and save the victims, Nansel restates the security authorities’ relentless efforts and says that search and rescue operations are still underway.

Hardly a week has passed since some unidentified gunmen murdered Comrade Daniel Umaru Lagi, the father of Innocent Lagi, the former attorney general of Nasarawa State, after he was kidnapped.

It has been alleged that Comrade Lagi, who was abducted on May 28, was slain because he refused to accept a ransom to be freed.

A hospital in the Akwanga Local Government Area now houses his body.

According to reports, military soldiers are searching the jungle for the remaining kidnappers after apprehending one suspect.

In a same vein, the village chief of Usmanu in Taraba State’s Karim-Lamido Local Government Area was shot and killed by unidentified assailants, sending the locals into mourning.

The incident happened on Sunday night, and the neighbors were alarmed by the intermittent gunfire that went along with it.

In a statement to reporters, Bitrus Danjos, the Chairman of Karim-Lamido LGA, verified the occurrence.

Danjos observed that the death of the king was unexpected, particularly considering that the deceased’s younger brother was slain only a few months prior.
