Gunmen attacked the Kwatas and Daffo communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of seven people. Gakji Shipi, Special Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang and coordinator of the state-owned security outfit Operation Rainbow, confirmed the attacks on Wednesday in Jos.
Shipi reported that there were two separate attacks—one in Kwatas and another in Daffo—both in Bokkos. In addition to the fatalities, several individuals sustained varying degrees of injury. He assured that normalcy has since returned to the affected areas, but emphasized that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for the violence.
The exact motive behind the attacks and whether they were carried out by the same group remain unclear. Plateau State, located in north-central Nigeria, frequently experiences various forms of violence, including clashes between farmers and herders, inter-communal conflicts, and ethno-religious violence.
