|By Adejumo Adekunle – Gunmen suspected to be assassins have shot dead a young politician and community mobiliser, Samuel Obe Ngobe, in Ebubu, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The attackers reportedly struck on 22 May after invading a hotel owned by the deceased in the community.
Residents said the masked assailants arrived on a motorbike, walked straight to Mr Ngobe and opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.
Sources also said the gunmen seized mobile phones belonging to hotel workers, allegedly to stop them from raising an alarm during the attack.
The killing has heightened concerns over insecurity and targeted attacks in parts of the state.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, Grace Iringe-Koko, said investigations were ongoing.
“Investigation is ongoing on the matter,” the police spokesperson said.
