Nigeria-born defender Hamdi Akujobi has sealed a move to Dutch side Excelsior Rotterdam, completing a free transfer as he edges closer to full recovery from a long-term injury.

The 26-year-old right-back signed a contract that runs until the end of the current season, with an option for an additional year. The deal hands Excelsior a proven Eredivisie campaigner eager to relaunch his career.

Akujobi is currently in the final stages of rehabilitation after suffering a cruciate ligament injury during his spell with SC Heerenveen. The defender has intensified his recovery programme and is expected to return to full fitness soon.

Despite the setback, Excelsior moved decisively to secure his services, banking on his top-flight Dutch experience to strengthen their defensive line. Known for his pace, tactical awareness, and ability to surge forward from the right flank, Akujobi brings depth and composure to the squad.

He began his professional journey at Feyenoord before gaining further experience with Almere City, steadily building a reputation as a reliable and versatile defender in Dutch football.

The move offers Akujobi a fresh platform to rediscover his form and make an immediate impact once fully match-fit.
