The Arewa Youth for Peaceful Coexistence has voiced its support for the current government, urging Nigerians to back the administration rather than participate in planned protests.
Mr. Mark Ogar, Chairman of the FCT Chapter of the group, expressed concerns that the upcoming protest could lead to chaos and economic destabilization. Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Ogar highlighted that the government is actively working to address the country’s issues and should be supported.
“Our aim today is to raise awareness against the planned protest next week. We have observed that some politically motivated elements are attempting to disrupt our economy and create chaos in the FCT under the guise of a peaceful protest, reminiscent of the EndSARS protests in Lagos,” Ogar said.
He emphasized that the current government is committed to mitigating crises and alleviating poverty, and therefore believes it is unwise for any group or individual to oppose an administration working for the people’s benefit.
Ogar called on Nigerians, especially those from the Arewa region, to distance themselves from the planned protests, describing them as attempts to destabilize the nation and damage infrastructure.
He acknowledged the economic hardships faced by Nigerians but pointed out that these issues are part of global economic challenges. Ogar praised President Tinubu’s efforts to provide palliatives to offset the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
“It is true that Nigerians are experiencing economic difficulties, but it’s important to note that these challenges are not unique to Nigeria. Many countries, including Switzerland and France, are facing similar issues. However, we have a responsive government that is aware of our struggles and is introducing various palliative measures to ease the burden on citizens,” he stated.
Ogar also warned against the potential consequences of protests, citing the recent crisis in Kenya that led to the destruction of government infrastructure. He stressed that such unrest could undermine the developmental progress made in the Federal Capital Territory under Minister Nyesom Wike.
He concluded by urging all Nigerians to cooperate and support the government during this challenging period to aid in the nation’s socio-economic recovery and development.
