Prominent human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has commended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his swift adherence to the Supreme Court ruling on local government administration. In a statement issued on Monday, Adeyanju lauded Fubara’s commitment to democratic principles and constitutional order.

The governor recently instructed the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to conduct fresh elections for local government councils while appointing Heads of Local Government Administration to oversee the 23 LGAs in the interim. Additionally, he ordered outgoing local government chairmen to hand over by March 3, 2025, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s ruling, which prohibits caretaker arrangements.

Adeyanju praised this decisive action, emphasizing that it reinforces the rule of law and prioritizes the welfare of Rivers residents despite ongoing political turbulence. He urged Fubara to remain steadfast and resist distractions, particularly from detractors like former Governor Nyesom Wike.

While acknowledging his past disagreements with Wike, Adeyanju cautioned Fubara against falling into any political traps that could jeopardize the collective interest of the state. He assured the governor of nationwide support, expressing confidence that by 2027, Fubara will emerge stronger and capable of overcoming any opposition.

“Governor Fubara’s leadership is a beacon of hope. The nation watches, and history will judge him kindly for his courage and dedication to the people of Rivers State,” Adeyanju stated.
