An investigation is underway in a town in Benue State after some hunters reportedly rescued a baby who was supposedly buried alive, as his mother thought.
The incident occurred in Ashav Kusuv, a village in the Buruku Local Government Area of the State.
A local resident, Terna, informed reporters that hunters located the infant in the forest and were able to bring her back to safety.
“On Saturday, some hunters discovered a baby girl and claimed she was buried alive in a jungle.
“The baby is currently being cared for at the Ashav Kusuv community,” a resident told the Daily Post.
Confirming the occurrence, Iorkyaan Agber, Chairman of the Local Government, told journalists over the weekend that the youngster was discovered by hunters in a woodland.
“Some hunters indeed found a baby in the forest but we are investigating to know who went and dropped a baby in the forest and the reason for doing that,” Agba said.
However, the state police have yet to publish an official comment regarding the distressing episode.
