IAUE approves five new programmes after the National Universities Commission (NUC) accredited the courses at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt.
The university announced the approval after its Senate meeting on Wednesday, 7 October 2026. The meeting took place at the Postgraduate Hall.
The five programmes are Special Needs Education, Human Kinetics and Sports Management, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Cyber Security.
According to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Ngozi Okiridu, the approval followed a NUC visit to the university on 8 September.
The visit assessed the institution’s readiness to run the newly introduced programmes.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, said the university would appoint qualified academic staff to head the new departments.
In another decision, the Senate expelled a final-year student, Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora, from the Department of English and Literary Studies.
The university said it took the decision over what it described as damaging content creation.
IAUE said the student claimed in a viral interview that her project topic was “Citizenship”. The university said the department had no such project topic.
It also said she alleged that her supervisor wrote the project for her.
The Senate further approved graduating results for the 2024/2025 academic session. The results covered IAUE faculties and affiliated institutions, including Peaceland University, Enugu, and College of Education, Warri.
The Senate also approved the 2026/2027 academic calendar.
Returning students will resume on 9 November 2026, while full registration for first-year students will begin on 16 November.
Lectures for returning students will start on 23 November. Fresh students will begin lectures on 30 November.
The Christmas break will begin on 18 December. Academic activities will resume on 4 January 2027.
