Babatunji Wusu –
High Chief Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin has been confirmed as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland by the kingmakers, who also serve on the Olubadan-in-Council.
His appointment as the Olubadan filled the vacuum created by Oba Mahood Olalekan Balogun, the 42nd Olubadan, who died last month.
The confirmation meeting, held on Friday, was attended by key members of the Olubadan-in-Council and lasted from 11:00 a.m. until soon after 12:00 p.m.
High Chief Lateef Adebimpe, the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, nominated Olakulehin for the prestigious position, which was unanimously approved by everyone present.
The session was presided over by High Chief Rasidi Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan and former Governor of Oyo State.
Osi Olubadan, Eddy Oyewole Foko; Ashipa Olubadan, Abiodun Kola-Daisi; Ekerin Olubadan, Hamidu Ajibade; Ekarun Olubadan, Adebayo Akande; Osi Balogun, Lateef Adebimpe; Ashipa Balogun, Kola Adegbola; Ekerin Balogun, Dada Isioye; and Ekarun Balogun, Abiodun Azeez were among those who attended the council meeting.
Notably absent was Otun Balogun Tajudeen Ajibola, a prominent council member.
Following approval, the high chiefs intend to transmit High Chief Olakulehin’s name to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for official endorsement.
This is the final step in the confirmation process, and it follows the traditions and customs of Ibadan’s chieftaincy institution.
