Tunji Wusu –
Nigerians have been assured by the interim Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, that the security issues on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway will soon be history.
When he gave the order for several projects in Ikeja, Lagos, Egbetokun made the guarantee.
The following projects were ordered, including the renovation and furnishing of the administrative block at 22PMF in Oduduwa, Ikeja, GRA, Lagos; the construction of the Police Clinic, ICT Center, Police Tailoring Workshop, Transit Camp, and Post-Traumatic De-Stress unit; and others.
In response to questions on the security situation in other areas of the nation as well as along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, Egbetokun stated: “Since I assumed responsibility as acting IGP, we have taken steps to ensure that crime is kept to a bare minimum, to maintain security. The essential efforts are being taken to cleanse the Abuja-Kaduna road of the criminal elements frightening motorists, and Nigerians will soon notice the change.
“We are building a Special Intervention Squad (SIS), and SIS will shortly begin operations, so we need more time before our efforts begin to bear fruit.
“Luckily, we have a government that cares so much about the welfare of police officers, the government understands the purity challenges and welfare challenges,” he responded when questioned about the wellbeing of police officers. I have the President’s word that actions are being taken to put smiles on the faces of Nigerian police men.
