The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has visited victims of the recent Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosions receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the Maiduguri Monday Market bombing site.

The visit follows the explosions that rocked parts of the Borno State capital, raising fresh security concerns in the area.

During the visit to the hospital, the police chief met with injured victims undergoing treatment and commiserated with them and families affected by the tragic incidents, assuring them that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to bringing those responsible for the attacks to justice.

He also inspected the scene of the explosion at the Maiduguri Monday Market to assess the impact of the incident and evaluate the security response already deployed in the area.

The Inspector-General further visited the Borno State Government House and the Borno State Police Command Headquarters where he held engagements with government officials and security chiefs to review security arrangements and strengthen coordinated response efforts.

He reassured residents of Maiduguri and surrounding communities that security has been significantly reinforced through enhanced deployments, increased surveillance operations and robust joint operational measures aimed at preventing any recurrence.

Disu emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, will continue to intensify operations to dismantle criminal networks responsible for the attacks and ensure the safety of residents across the state.
