On Sunday, there was a fire outbreak at Tanke, Ilọrin South Local Government Area, Kwara State, at the Grace International School located on Awolowo Street near to the Kobiowu Mosque.When the firefighters arrived on the site, Adekunle observed that the roaring flames had totally devoured a block of schools.

Nine classrooms were damaged by the fire.

According to reports, the tragic fire occurred on Sunday night after 6:00 p.m. and severely damaged most of the 14-room structure.

Hassan Adekunle, the Kwara State Fire Service spokesperson, confirmed the event in a statement provided to press on Monday. He said that firemen were notified of the occurrence and dispatched personnel to the location right away.

 

“Tragically, the fire had already ravaged nine out of the 14 classrooms, leaving a significant portion of the school in ruins,” Daily Trust quoted Adekunle saying.

He credited the origin of the blaze to “a fire in the undergrowth that was intentionally ignited by an unknown person”.

“The flames then rapidly spread to the school building, causing extensive damage,” Adekunle added.

Reacting, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, emphasized the importance of safety and urged the public to exercise caution in their daily endeavours.
