Dumebi Kachikwu, the Action Democratic Congress’s nominee for president, has insisted that he will vote in Saturday’s election despite the crisis engulfing his party.
At the News Agency of Nigeria conference in Abuja, Kachikwu made this claim.
When explaining the origins of the conflict affecting the ADC, Kachikwu stated that the former chairman refused to step down after his term had expired.
“The Federal High Court’s Judge Binta Nyanko declared in December 2022 that the former chairman’s term had expired.
“He had been there for about 17 years, and it was the kind of party where they invited individuals like me every four years. Also, they will reveal their allegiance a few days before the election.
“The moment the populace realized I wanted to run for office, they began to oppose me.
“Unfortunately, the man forgot his tenure had expired when he was fighting me.
“I informed him that his term was up. I told him that as an Igbo man, I wouldn’t be running. I don’t hold any of these beliefs. I think that viewing Nigeria as a nation for everyone is the only way for Nigeria to function.
I adhered to the party’s constitution, Kachikwu continued. The chairman filed a lawsuit, and the judge found that because the constitution is so explicit, they were not even allowed to present a defense.
“As of right now, I don’t have a single representative in the upcoming election.
“I’m still in the race, and I’ll stay in the race all the way to the end because there will be others coming after me who will need to understand that doing the right thing costs money, but it’s the greatest thing to do.”
