Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar-Surajo Imam has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first active Nigerian Army officer to be appointed as a Professor. The announcement was made by the Registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna State, AM Tukur, through a statement released on Friday. According to Tukur, Imam belongs to the esteemed department of Mechatronics Engineering within the institution.

 

The promotion was officially ratified during the NDA council meeting in September and has been in effect since October 1, 2023. The registrar emphasized that this decision reflects the council’s unwavering confidence in Imam and acknowledges his valuable contributions to his department. Tukur commended the new professor for his excellent service and unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of excellence in his field.

 

In response to the appointment, Tukur expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Professor Imam on behalf of the Commandant and the entire staff of the Nigerian Defence Academy. This well-deserved promotion not only recognizes Imam’s accomplishments but also highlights the academy’s dedication to acknowledging and rewarding outstanding achievements within its academic community. Tukur urged the newly appointed professor to continue working diligently, maintaining the same level of commitment in order to validate the trust placed upon him.
