President Muhammadu Buhari has urged males to take the lead in defending and protecting national assets and to abstain from acts of violence, regretting that doing so raises the cost of governance and gives the impression that the nation is unstable.
The President also expresses his congratulations to men worldwide on International Men’s Day (IMD), which he noted thoughtfully highlights health challenges, leadership and modeling roles, sacrifices, and other complex duties of men, such as respect for women.
Given their visible positions in families, governments, communities, and leadership in religious, traditional, and political institutions, men play a crucial role in ensuring a safe, peaceful, and progressive environment, as stated by President Buhari in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina.
The President specifically urged men to be guided in protecting and promoting democracy in Nigeria by ensuring full participation in the upcoming elections in 2023, adhering to the rules of the electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and investigating legal remedies. He did this while acknowledging the strong, influential, and significant position that women have played in building the nation over the years, as evidenced by their rising profiles.
President Buhari urged men to lead by example in safeguarding and protecting national assets and to abstain from acts of violence, such as the targeting of the offices and stores of the electoral body, which only raises the cost of governance and portrays the nation as unstable. He spoke on the theme of this year’s IMD, “Men Leading by Example.”
According to the President, every citizen’s voice and vote counts in determining Nigeria’s leadership and system of government. He urged males in the nation to provide the necessary example of decency and decorum and mobilize for the greater good of fostering national development.
The President commended the IMD’s Local Organizing Committee for creating a schedule for the elections in 2023 and for sticking to its mission of encouraging men to make more patriotic, considerate, and inclusive decisions at home and in public.
