Imo Police Arrest Seven Armed Robbery Suspects

The Imo State Police Command has arrested seven suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in Ihiagwa, Owerri West Local Government Area. The operation followed a complaint by a student of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, who reported being robbed at gunpoint along FUTO Road.

According to the police, officers from the Ihiagwa Police Division acted on credible intelligence and arrested Stanley Nwachukwu, Moses Okezie, and Gabriel Confidence. The suspects were later transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation.

During questioning, the suspects allegedly admitted belonging to the Vikings Confraternity and provided information that led investigators to arrest four more suspects. They were identified as Emeka Oguike, Gideon Kadiri, Nnodim David, and Kingsley Okwara. Police said the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the student community.

As part of the operation, officers recovered one cut-down English-made single-barrel gun, one locally made revolver pistol, one locally made single-barrel gun, and four rounds of live cartridges. The Imo Police confirmed that investigations remain ongoing as security operatives continue to track down other suspects believed to be linked to the case.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, said the operation reflects the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and tackling violent crime across the state. He added that Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso commended the officers for their professionalism and urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely and credible information to help strengthen public safety.
