Traders in famous Ekeukwu Owerri, Imo State, abandoned their stores and businesses on Monday after receiving a threatening letter from the militants.

The citizens have suffered as a result of the circumstance, as there are few people wandering on Owerri’s streets and roads.

There were few commercial trucks and cars on the roadways, but schools, banks, eateries, motor parks, and business establishments were open for business.

Because of the panic that had already been created, traders in other markets in the state were unable to open their stores or companies for fear of being attacked.

According to a market trader who did not want to be identified, the gunmen’s rage stems from the fact that the traders in Owerri’s market have not followed the sit-at-home order every Monday.

In their letter last week Saturday, the unwitting gunmen threatened to harm the traders of the Ekeukwu Owerri market if they did not obey the instructions.

According to the letter, the organization stated that because they did not comply with the sit-at-home command, they should brace themselves for an attack at any time.

Worried about the scenario, the market’s leadership went through the length and breadth of the market with a gong, telling traders of the issue, on the same day they received the letter.

When approached by Mr Henry Okoye, Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, he urged the traders to disregard such information and proceed with their business.

He told them that if they had such information, they should immediately notify the Nigerian Police.
