Imo State University lecturers have rejected examination scripts written during the ongoing ASUU strike, warning that students who sit for the examinations may not have their papers graded.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Imo State University branch, said its members would not evaluate or grade scripts from examinations conducted while the strike remains in force.
The branch chairperson, Stephen Oguji, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Owerri on Saturday.
Oguji urged students currently taking examinations to consider the implications of participating in the process.
He said the union remained committed to protecting the integrity of university education. According to him, lecturers do not want students to graduate through a process that lacks academic credibility.
The ASUU branch therefore condemned the decision to conduct examinations during the industrial action.
It also rejected the examinations, arguing that the process could undermine the standards expected in university education.
The warning places students in a difficult position. Those who sit for the examinations may complete the papers, but the union says its members will not grade them.
As a result, students face uncertainty over how their examination results will be processed if the dispute continues.
The development also highlights the wider tension between university unions and university authorities during industrial disputes.
