According to World Athletics, Tobi Amusan, a Nigerian who holds the world record in the 100-meter hurdles, is listed as the fifth-best female athlete in 2022.

Using the athletics scoring tables, the World Athletics graded each athlete based on the points they acquired from their performances over the season.

The 25-year-old hurdler had an outstanding year and became the first Nigerian woman to win a world championship in an athletics event when she won the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2022 World Championships. In the semifinal, she set the current world record of 12.12 seconds, which she then lowered to 12.06 in the final.

Additionally, she won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham before defending her title in the Diamond League in Zurich with a new meet-record time of 12.29 seconds. Gail Devers, a national treasure in the United States, held the previous record, which was valid for 22 years.

The women’s 100-meter hurdles world record achieved by Amusan in the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, United States, has just been ratified by the World Athletics.

Amusan was among the five finalists that were chosen for the Women’s World Athlete of the Year Award’s short list.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, a sprinting superstar from Jamaica, comes in first, followed by Sharicka Jackson, another native. Yulimar Rojas, the triple jump champion of Venezuela, is in third place, and Sydney McLaughlin of the United States is in fourth.

Femke Bol of the Netherlands, a 400-meter hurdler, is rated sixth, followed by Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia, a runner, Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine, a high jumper, Faith Kipyegon of Kenya, a shot put thrower from the United States, and Chase Ealey.
