According to the Police Command in Katsina State, from January 2022 to the present, no fewer than 54 suspected terrorists had been successfully neutralized, while five officers had been killed in gunfights.
This was revealed during the end-of-year press conference on Friday in Katsina by the commissioner of politics in the country, Mr. Shehu Umar-Nadada.
He claimed that throughout the reviewed year, the command had been able to detain 1,102 people in connection with 705 recorded cases.
Additionally, 989 suspects who were apprehended are currently being prosecuted in the state’s various competent courts, according to Umar-Nadada.
“In all, 177 suspected armed robbers were apprehended, and 169 people were charged with crimes; eight cases are still being investigated.
Additionally, 241 alleged bandits, kidnappers, and informants were detained; 239 of these people have been charged with crimes, while 16 others are being looked at.
He added that 1,092 domestic animals, including 727 cows, 370 sheep, and goats, had been rescued from the criminals.
In 245 recorded occurrences of rape and other unnatural crimes, 266 suspects were detained, and 260 suspects had been charged with crimes; Umar-Nadada further stated that six individuals were under investigation.
“Four documented cases saw the rescue of 46 human trafficking victims, who were then given to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) office for further investigation.
Additionally, 122 kidnapped victims were freed from alleged kidnappers and bandits during the review period, and 18 stolen motorbikes as well as 22 allegedly stolen cars were found.
“We were able to collect 14 AK 47 weapons, two locally built AK 47 rifles, 19 locally made firearms, and 81 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition of AK 47 rifle during the time under review,” he stated.
